Iowa Writes

JENNIFER R. HORN
Another evening away from home

As my car travels away on a green-strewn street,
the crow in dusk flight languorously trails a wing
along the hood of my car, en route
to the opposite curb, as nonchalant as boredom.
The bird lifts itself into the leafy fly space of the neighborhood,
where it will perch and watch, a glossy shadow, and punctuate
the evening hush with occasional heckling after my fading taillights.
