SIOBHáN GORDON
[Enter Fall]

we succumb to gloves and hats when September ex-
its, awash in rain.

the sidewalk, slick, is full of leaves
like painted yellow fans,
gifts of the autumn-garbed gingkos.

I sweep up the fans with the toe of my boot.

what is it about the rain
that teaches yellow to shout aloud?
