MICHAEL BLAND
Bring It

How can I relate to you?
How can I empathize?
You certainly don't know what it's like,
when you're Teflon to gravity and impervious to pain,
when walls don't contain you,
every object becomes a weapon,
and badly dressed villains want to destroy you and your kin.
I didn't sign up for this.
Many days I wonder if it's worth it.
Some of you bemoan loneliness at the top.
Imagine being me.
The world is different to me, warped and fuzzy and loose,
with occasional life-ending threats shooting out of the night,
stacked like planes waiting to land.
That's right.
I'm not you.
When those threats come, with
a crack of knuckles,
cape flapping behind me,
I smile
for now the world is right.
