Northeast Iowa Hills

JEFF ALLEN
Northeast Iowa Hills, oil on linen panel, 9" x 19", 2014

Jeff has lived most of his life in Iowa and is currently living in Solon, Iowa.  He is the founder of the Plein Air Painters of Iowa, a member of the Plein Air Painters of Chicago, Iowa Artists, and the Cedar Rapids Drawing Group, and an Artist Member of the Palette and Chisel Academy of Fine Arts of Chicago.

Jeff's work has been described as bold, yet soft, and pastoral with a certain dream-like ethereal quality.  He draws his inspiration from the Iowa landscape and the group of friends that surrounds him.

Jeff writes, Painting is a process of problem solving.  Problems of light, shadow, composition, form, rhythm and what you want to say.  If you ask yourself the right questions while standing in front of the canvas you can create a painting that the viewer can connect with.  Words alone are not enough...

Northeast Iowa Hills is a plein air painting that was painted at the intersection of State Forest Road and Harpers Ferry Road in Northeast Iowa.  The morning was overcast, and hazy, with bits of light shining through.  The play of the greens and yellows of the cornfields against the cool blue/black sky sets a dramatic stage next to the Yellow River Forest.
