Swept Away

LIANNE WESTCOT
Swept Away, acrylic on stretched canvas, 4" x 12", 2015

Lianne M. Westcot earned a BA in Graphic Design from Iowa State University.  She is a member of the Iowa Plein Air Painters.  Lianne's work has been exhibited throughout Iowa, and it can be seen in two upcoming shows, including one at Coe College and one at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.  Her work is also held in the permanent collections of the Iowa City Public Library, Cedar Ridge Vineyards in Swisher, Iowa, and Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

The artist writes, "I grew up in rural Iowa where the land was a big part of life for most people.  My parents were horticulturalists and I spent a lot of time working and being outdoors when I was young.  Upon returning from my first year of college I began to appreciate the beauty of Iowa, and my appreciation only grows stronger.  I love painting the views, vistas, and vignettes that I see around me every day.  In addition to rural horizons and farms, restored prairies and nature areas inspire me.  I work in acrylic and I am primarily a studio painter, although I often paint en plein air.  I enjoy other media as well such as watercolor, pencil, and ink."
