Prairie Sunset, Solon IA, Photograph
Barry Sharp is a photographer who grew up in Bettendorf, IA and now makes his home in Solon.
In his own words:
Wanderlust—it is what drives me to explore the world around me. I have traveled to 49 of the 50 United States, ironically, leaving our first State, Delaware, unchecked off the wanderlust list. I was motivated to become a photographer to capture the beauty found in the great diversity of the United States while feeding my wanderlust. As a native Iowan, my goal in photographing in the State of Iowa is to make not only Iowans, but the world aware of the natural beauty found in Iowa. Beauty not found at 70 mph along Interstate 80.
My landscape photography incorporates the contrast between sky, earth, and in some cases water. Whether capturing the beginning or end of a day, or the transition to a new season, it is a moment often lost in the rush of daily life.
Rarely do I go out to shoot with a specific photograph in mind; rather I let the world I am observing at the moment drive my passion to capture it. If I can motivate the viewer to take a moment to reflect on my photography and come away with a greater appreciation of the natural beauty surrounding us, then I have achieved my goal.
