Iowa Writes

any language is
holier than mere intellect can comprehend.
Its goal is not to dominate.
Its goal is to be fruitful
in the mother tongue
at its point—infinity of potency.
The mother tongue, the mother tongue:
not with meaning,
but with sound.
Utterances there are
in any language
so intractable
that even Creation itself
cannot nullify,
cannot alter,
not even at the sub-atomic level.
And in the mother of all tongues
perfection must abide.
The sacred will:
ever-present, self-effulgent Creator
root of silence,
core of peace,
takes hold of every law
however violent,
transforming it to compassion.
Transforming us in the hard wiring
of our desire
to what we have always been,
to what we must ever become.
In that essential impulse
resides peace beyond the fragmented understanding
of the brink.
Drawing us, that all-powerful
immortality of innocence.
